First off: this is Arlene Dickinson. You might know her as one of Canada’s leading entrepreneurs. Or maybe you‘ve seen her as one of the stars of CBC’s Dragons‘ Den. Or maybe you’ve checked out one of her two national bestselling books, Persuasion and All In. Or maybe you caught one of her many speaking engagements as the voice of the entrepreneurial movement in Canada.

Venture is looking for a senior strategist to help build our clients’ brands. We want someone with extensive experience building brands and providing strategic advice to guide marketing, communications and public relations campaigns. A clear thinker and a clear communicator, the ideal candidate is intelligent, curious and, above all else, has an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving.

As a member of Venture’s Strategy community, you will contribute by researching, proposing, and writing clear, well-written and compelling insights, in the development of brand and campaign strategies. You will also direct the building of marketing and communications plans, alongside Venture’s community leaders. Your thorough research, clear judgment and exceptional writing skills will help clients of one of Canada’s leading independent marketing agencies take control of their market in ways that cannot be ignored.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and presenting brand strategies and marketing and communications plans for large and small entrepreneurial companies and organizations
  • Overseeing research programs to inform the development of our clients’ brands and marketing campaigns
  • Writing clear, succinct briefs to guide marketing campaigns and creative platforms
  • Working with client managers to provide ongoing brand leadership for our clients
  • Working with analysts to set goals and objectives for our campaigns, and to assess campaign performance
  • Remaining current on marketing strategy innovations, to ensure our clients stay ahead of their competition

Required skills and experience:

  • 10+ years of experience and progressive advancement in marketing, communications or public affairs roles, with a preference for some experience in an agency environment
  • Excellent communications and listening skills
  • Superior writing skills, with a high attention to detail
  • Comfort presenting your ideas to colleagues, our clients and their partners and stakeholders
  • A collaborative and engaging demeanor, with a propensity to propose and share ideas, assist others, and integrate feedback from agency colleagues and clients
  • A knack for success and multi-tasking in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • An arts, business, marketing, or communications-related degree from an accredited University is preferred

Job description

We’re adding a Client Marketing Coordinator to our growing Calgary office! The Coordinator will join the Client Marketing Team to manage a portfolio of Venture’s exciting clients. If you’re motivated, organized, dedicated to client success and an exceptional communicator, then this role is for you (willingness to engage in nerf gun wars also considered an asset (BYONG)).

Core Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • The successful development of both online and offline projects, working with a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team of resources to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget with complete accuracy.
  • Planning, scheduling and control of all project activities toward these objectives, applying technical, theoretical and managerial skills to satisfy project requirements, while building positive professional relationships with vendors, colleagues and clients.
  • Working both independently and with team members to estimate costs for new project work, including change management elements on active projects. Providing regular updates on project status and budget.
  • Development of specs for projects as needed.
  • Quality assurance and proofreading of all project work.
  • Actively follow the Venture process for delivering marketing programs. Deliver client contact reports, budget control reports; develop accurate estimates in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Manage the relationship in a professional, ethical and disciplined manner.
  • Work with other teams to integrate Venture’s offerings into a holistic approach based on the customers’ needs.
  • Support business development efforts through contributions to RFP responses as well as new business meetings with prospective clients; always thinking about how we can better serve clients and grow their business.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 1-3 years of related work experience. Advertising agency experience an asset.
  • Experience in managing projects budgets and schedules for: Print, Broadcast (Television, Radio), Direct Mail, Websites, Digital Marketing – Online Display & Rich Media, Email, Social Media and CRM projects.
  • Proven experience in and successful management of projects with cross-functional teams (Client Marketing, Creative, Production, Strategy, Media, Digital and Events).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including extremely strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expert in PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Strong teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills.
